1. We have nearly 3 crore commuters daily.
2. We have the largest railway network.
3. Largest employer. (in case of number of employees)
Our Cons:
1. Availability of birth.
2. Unhygienic and unsafe.
3. Long delays.
I have not talked about the financial condition of railways. And i think i don't care about that. Lets start fresh, we have learnt from our mistakes but now time to move on with what we have learnt to improve. So how we are going to improve our largest travel medium.
Current rail speeds:
Passenger Trains : 30-35 km/h
Mail/Express : 50-55 km/h
Superfast : 65-70 km/h
Rajdhani/Duranto: 75-80 km/h
Now days Air-traffic tariffs are nearly equal to first class railway tariffs. and it covers all cons of railways as i discussed above.

For Railways :
To attract new customer and money:
1. There must be some special identified corridors. means where we can run dedicated high speed first class train which maximum travel time is 3 hours.
1a) Finance : Each special corridor should be a public company (means it should have share holding from public). Earned money from IPO should be used for creating new lines or leasing line from government(initial years) and purchasing new coaches.
1b) Train will make sure the availability of berth. This needs extra coaches. Reduce the frequency of trains and charge more for extra coaches.
Passenger point of view:
1. Each coach should have a dedicated policeman.
2. Each train should have first-aid box associated with policeman.
3. Reserved coaches should be made sure that they are reserved.
